At some point in its long life, the top of this nearly 200-year-old lithograph was torn away - taking its original title, *L'Italie*, with it.

This is the surviving title sheet from *L'Italie*, a sprawling illustrated tour of Italy drawn and lithographed by French artist Isidore-Laurent Deroy and published in Paris around 1840.

The sheet is incomplete now, but what remains is wonderful: a tiny scene of people dancing beneath a vine-covered arbor, with mountains and water disappearing into the distance. Below it, Deroy's name sprawls dramatically across the page, followed by the original Paris publisher information.

The rough left edge suggests the sheet may once have been bound into an album or volume, but we can't know exactly how or when it was separated. What we do know is that this piece has survived roughly 185 years in this imperfect, oddly compelling state.

It's not a pristine collector's print. It's a surviving fragment of a nineteenth-century journey through Italy - something you can frame as-is, use in an art piece, or simply own because old paper with a mysterious past is cool. Approximately 18" x 12" at the tallest edge.

CONDITION: Fair antique condition. Significant irregular tear and paper loss across the upper portion, including loss of the original main title “L’ITALIE.” Left edge is rough and irregular and may indicate removal from a bound album or volume. Scattered foxing, spotting and age toning throughout, with additional edge wear, small tears and nicks. The central lithographic scene, decorative “DEROY” lettering and remaining publication text are intact and clearly visible. Unframed.
